Privacy Policy
Ontario Library District (Ontario Community Library) Protects the privacy and confidentiality of all library users, no matter their age. We are committed to your privacy and confidentiality. In Accordance with the American Library Association's Code of Ethics: "We protect each library user's right to privacy and confidentially with respect to information sought or received and resources consulted, borrowed, acquired, or transmitted."
The Library privacy and confidentiality policies are in compliance with applicable federal, sate, and local laws.
All Library polices are also available and upon request at the front desk of the library.
We avoid creating unnecessary records, retaining records not needed for library business purposes, and we do not engage in practices that might place information in pubic view.
Information we do gather and retain about current library users:
- Information required to register for a Library Card. ( Name, address, phone number, email, birth date, Photo ID number)
- Records of current material checked out, charges owed, payments made
- Electronic access information
- Requests for interlibrary loans, reference material, Obituary contact information
- Sign-up information for classes and library programs
- Records of disciplinary and collections actions
We will not collect or retain your private and personally identifiable information with out your consent. If you consent to give us your personally identifiable information, we will keep it confidential and will not sell, license or disclose personal information to any third party, Except and agent working under contract to the library, with out your consent, unless we are required by law to do so.
We never use or share the personally identifiable information provided to us in ways unrelated to the ones described above without also providing you an opportunity to prohibit such unrelated uses, unless we are required by law to do so.
We ensure that the library's contracts, licenses, and offsite computer service arrangements reflect our policies and legal obligations concerning user privacy and confidentiality. When connecting to licensed databases outside the library, we release only information that authenticates users as registered Ontario Library District (Ontario Community Library) patrons. Never the less, users must be aware that when accessing remote sites, that there are limits to the privacy protection the library can provide.
Users who choose to take advantage of RSS feeds from the library catalog, public blogs, holds and overdue notices by email or text message and/or similar services that send personal information related to library use via a public communications network. These users must also be aware that the library has limited ability to protect privacy of this information once it is outside of our control.
Library Staff may access personal date stored in library computer systems only for the purpose of performing their assigned library duties. Staff will not disclose any personal data we collect from you to any other party except where required by law or to fulfill our service request.
The library does not sell, lease or give users' personal information to companies, governmental agencies or individuals except as required by law or with the user's authorization.
In compliance with Oregon Identity Theft Protection Act (SB 583) the Ontario Library District (Ontario Community Library) will make a reasonable effeort to notify affected persons in a timely manner in the event that personal identifying information is accidentally disclosed. This information includes a persons name in combination with a State Id card number.
If you have questions, concerns, or complaints about our handling of your privacy and confidentiality rights you may file written comments with the Library Director. We will respond in a timely manner and conduct a privacy investigation or review of practices and procedures We conduct such reviews regularly to insure compliance with the principles out line in this statement.
